Saudi citizens return to air travel after borders open

A major travel agency in Saudi Arabia says a month after the border was reopened, bookings have begun to show signs of recovery. According to Arab News, Sierra Group's 'Al-Musafar' travel agency said that the company has received 76% more bookings than in 2019, and expects further growth in the last quarter of the year. According to the company, 90% of those surveyed said they would go abroad within six months of the borders opening.
Al-Musafer says domestic travel is also on the rise, as Saudi citizens and expatriates want to see local tourist destinations. Al-Musafer's vice president, Muzammil al-Hussein, said: "Despite the opening of the borders, we are happy to see that the demand for domestic travel is increasing, and our efforts to travel within the country are gaining momentum."
Domestically, people are traveling to Jeddah, Riyadh, Al-Khabar and Dammam. The UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Ukraine and Morocco were the favorite destinations for Saudi nationals to travel abroad. The Maldives was also a favorite destination for families and couples. The data shows that Saudis are making smaller tourist trips and spending five percent more on each booking. Al-Musafer's vice president said: "Looking at Al-Musafer's bookings and searches over the past month, we are very optimistic about the Saudi travel sector.
